I’m a member in a FB-group dedicated to old Volvos, where oddities come around every now and then. Today someone posted a photo of their 145 DL, which in addition to being an automatic with a column shifter also has a front bench seat. The owner says it’s 1 of 5 made, which seems a bit to rare considering it’s a Volvo wagon.
Any of you guys familiar with that option? Some googling made me assume that it was available in the 144 as well..

Option combos can get down to that level of rarity if people order them in odd combinations. My Bonneville turned out to be 1 of 1 SSEi with the Purple metallic paint, cloth interior, no sunroof, and smoker’s package. It did not increase my resale value.

I learned a lot about the 140s and 160s when I had my 144, and I never saw anything about a front bench seat. That seems indeed very rare

It apparently appeared in the catalog so I’m sure there are a few of them out there.
Amazons also could have bench seats.

Don’t think this is down to option levels, since you mostly just had three option levels for the 140 in 1970-1971; L, DL and GL. It’s much more likely to be 1 of 5 sold in Norway with a bench seat, perhaps in 1971 as well. In that case it wouldn’t be as rare.
But yeah, it’s more an oddity worth preserving than something of great value.

Now that you say it, I actually have a brochure from 1970-1971 back home! I’ll be back with more.

Bench seats are very, very appropriate.

A bit suspicious that the upholstery on the seats doesn’t match.
It’s of course possible that the rear was installed there later on as Nordic countries had different kind of (tax evasion) van conversions. 145 vans without rear seats were very common in Finland.

That is a possibility. Or that the rear seats were replaced/reupholstered, but they couldn’t find one that matched the front..
